Inktober

Working with a goal or a deadline pushes me to create. Whether it’s self imposed, a commission, or showing, I work best this way. Capping off Ink365Draw with Inktober 2021 was the end of a year long daily drawing project and I went looking for the next one. After recovering from Riverview Artist Salon 22, Artists of Phenix and Freinds in June, 2022, I found myself floundering with my art and picked up my tools for Inktober 2022.Two collaborative works were created with Dream by WOMBO in order to meet the daily deadline.

After discovering the controversy over Inktober creator Jake Parker’s copyright and plagiarism issues while knee deep in his Inktober 2020 daily challenge, I decided to finish.  When it ended, I looked for another drawing challenge and couldn’t find anything I liked, so I created INK365Draw on Instagram. After a year on my own I decided to participate in Inktober 2021 since without it I would not have gone on to accumulate over 300 drawings and a solo show.

INK365Draw is a daily drawing challenge I started November 1st, 2020. I use random words from a 1982, $3.82 paperback dictionary as prompts. I investigate the meaning of each word and look for reference photos from Google searches, and/or my own ideas, I interpret the word in pencil, then ink it. I photograph the drawing and post it to my Facebook page and INK365Draw’s Instagram page using @ink365draw, #ink365draw and many other hashtags.
